I drove down to Mae Surin National Park and camped on the banks of the Pai River. The city Mae Hong Song is right on the border of the park and it was a nice piece of civilization amidst my camping adventure.
Nature hike time! In this dry season it’s clear to see the part of the forest that is near the river and which is farther away
This bridge has seen better days
Kind of foreboding part of the trail…
Dry river bed
River crossing
Small waterfall
I love the sun shining through the banana leaves
Out of the banana grove and into the bamboo
I love that instead of cutting the log to get it out of the way of the trail the Thais just cut a foothold into it. Lazy or genius?!
The ever captivating strangler tree
Looking down from the top of this waterfall
The little amount of water falls from so high that you can’t see it. I stripped down and climbed up to the light sprinkle of a waterfall. I hadn’t seen a single person on the trail and it was nice to cool off and feel alone with the wilderness.
My campsite #2
Pai River
I drove down an access road in the park away from the river and it was quickly dried and dead
There was a garden along the river!
Parsley bed by the river
Green onion anyone?
Pai River next to my campsite where I enjoyed an evening swim. I swear I didn’t pose the hat there
Up for the sunrise
Such a beautiful way to start the day, but it was my last day on this camping trip
Camping is probably the only time I can get up early enough for the sunrise
On my drive back to Pai I stopped to check out some caves
That was the only light, we went straight underground and into total darkness
Tree roots showing in the rock, so cool!
It was called Coral Cave because the rock looked like coral.
I brought my own headlamp when I saw the guide pull two out of his pack and then mine ran out of battery as soon as we got down the stairs! hah
The small road I ventured down to find the cave
There was a viewpoint along the way that my friend, Decha, had told me about
Jabu Viewpoint
There’s also a restaurant where you can eat with your legs hanging off the edge but it was closed. Bummer!
