I spent the night at Doi Inthanon National Park, which is also Thailand’s highest point. I explored the day I arrived and then got up for the sunrise before heading out the next day.
Once again, the lone camper…
I drove all the way to the other side of the park to go get gas and it was beautiful!
Looking up at the peak, I could see the tiny tips of the King and Queen’s pagodas
Hike to a waterfall
So vibrant!
Mini waterfall as I got close
Mae Pan Waterfall
There was a couple just leaving as I arrived so they took some photos for me
It’s nice to get a shot that’s not a selfie to show the scale
This was a deep dark pool and it was a little nerveracking jumping in all alone
Late afternoon dip was so relaxing
At the summit
Sunrise from the top of Thailand
There was a better lookout point a few kilometers below the summit
Watching the mist rise up out of the jungle was incredible
Beautiful mist rising from the jungle in the morning sun
The King’s Pagoda, built to honor his 60th birthday
The Queen’s Pagoda was built later for her 60th birthday
The gardens surrounding the pagodas were gorgeous!
These snap dragons were HUGE! Like 4ft tall!
Misty cliff
Both pagodas
Small town gas station! I didn’t realize it was self service! haha
Fields of marigolds
These covered rows had grow lights and at night I saw them all light up and it made the mountainside look like it was covered in candles. It was breathtaking.
Heading onto the longest drive yet
Leaving the mountain behind
Came across this stretch of road….cobblestones in Thailand?! Then I had to drive down a bumpy dirt road for almost 10 kilometers!
